BCGEU stakes clear position in public service talks
As we finish our first two days of public service bargaining, it is clear that we face a challenging round of negotiations.
We have been very clear with government negotiators that the BCGEU is not prepared to recommend an agreement without an extension of our current employment security protections.
I want all BCGEU public service members to know that while your bargaining committee is prepared to work creatively to reach a negotiated settlement, we know that this will only happen if there are real improvements for you. We won't settle for nothing.
Based on your input, priority areas for the union at the bargaining table include employment security, benefit improvements and compensation. Talks will resume January 26 through 28.

Length of new contract
With the prospect of possibly no increase in wages, I would not be in favour of a contract that lasts more than two years.
