Burnaby Movie Night! Celebrate Asian Heritage Month
In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, the BCGEU Equity + Human Rights Committee along with the Asian Canadian Labour Alliance is pleased to invite you to a night of movies. Light refreshments provided.
Join us Thursday, May 28, 7:00 - 8:30 pm, at the Tom Kozar Education centre at the BCGEU Headquarters, 4911 Canada Way, Burnaby (1/2 block west of Norland, enter off Iris Crescent).
"Between: Living in the Hyphen"
A film by Anne Marie Nakagawa that looks at seven different multi-racial Canadians including award-winning poet Fred Wah, and gives voice to their "hybridized" experiences. The film challenges our assumptions about the "one ethnicity + hyphen + Canadian."
"Haru wa Akebono"
Linda Ohama produced this short film about Saving the Legacy Sakura of Oppenheimer Park and the role of the community coalition that came together to save the trees and preserve the story of the Issei (first generation Japanese-Canadian pioneers) who planted the trees.
