PENSION NEWS

Members in Component 3 (CSS) participate in a variety of retirement arrangements. Most are covered by Group Registered Retirement Savings Plans. Beginning April 1, 2010, eligible workers will have the option to join the Municipal Pension Plan.

Information on the Municipal Pension Plan for union members covered under the Community Social Services contract - PDF booklet for BCGEU members

Some employers have told members they must submit their Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) enrolment documentation by March 15. This is not required.

All employees who are eligible to enroll in the Municipal Pension Plan will be enrolled automatically on April 1, 2010. Waivers (opting out) can be submitted at any time within 90 days after that date. There is no requirement to provide this information by March 15.

Some employers are saying the pension plan won't be funded by their funding ministries. The pension plan is a collective agreement obligation agreed to by the Community Social Services Employers' Association (CSSEA), an arm of the provincial government. The government has to provide sufficient funding. Don't allow this misinformation to affect your decision to enroll in the pension plan.
