Community Social Services Awareness Month – Week 3
Community Social Services Awareness Month is already in Week 3! Time flies when you're raising awareness about critical community-based services.
Last week's activities included municipal council presentations in Fort St. John, Terrace and Port Coquitlam, International Women's Day events, a motion in the Legislature recognizing the value and importance of the community social services sector, newspaper advertising and membership meetings in various regions across the province.
The following are just some of the activities and events that are taking place in communities across the province this week:
• Display tables at the Piccadilly Mall in Salmon Arm.
• Community Social Services Awareness Month booths at Lansdowne Shopping Centre in Richmond.
• Membership meetings for community social services workers in virtually every region of the province. For additional details on membership meetings, click here.
• Radio advertising can be heard in Vancouver, Victoria, the southeast, Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, Kamloops and Prince George.
To get involved:
• Visit our campaign website at http://www.communitysocialservicesmatter.ca/. You'll find plenty of event planning ideas, speaking notes, campaign posters, and other information and resources.
• Contact your steward or area office to see how you can work on the campaign in your community. For example, you may be able to help by making a presentation to a municipal council in your area, or by volunteering at a local event.
If you have scheduled a council presentation or other activity, or for further information, please contact Jonathan Chapnick at 604-291-9611, or toll free at 1-800-663-1674, or via email at jonathan.chapnick@bcgeu.ca.
