Contract with Town of Gibsons ratified

Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU) employed by the Town of Gibsons have ratified their collective agreement. The vote was held Friday night.

"The bargaining committee worked hard on this agreement," said BCGEU president Darryl Walker. "Our members provide important work for the people of Gibsons."

Highlights of the new agreement includes:

  • three-year agreement, ending December 2012
  • increase in the first year (2%); second year (2.48%); third year (2.6%).
  • signing bonus for full-time workers of $350 and $225 for part-time workers.
  •  improvements to health and welfare benefits

Staff at the town provide a wide range of services from administrative work to outside work involving parks and maintenance.
