Firefighters an essential part of public service network

In what is becoming one of the biggest forest fire seasons in recent memory, B.C.’s professional forest service steps forward once again to protect public safety and property.
Across the province, hundreds of forest fire fighters and their support and command crews mobilize to battle some 400 wildfires that threaten personal property and devastate public forest lands.
Working 12 and 14 hour days through the summer months, there continues to be no shortage of work for these fire crews – as climate change, the pine beetle infestation and human carelessness combine to create volatile conditions in B.C. forests.
Forest fire fighters at least are given the resources to do their jobs, while the B.C. government continues to gut the forest ministry and hand over management of public forest lands to the private sector.
Forest fire fighters are an essential part of our public service network, and are to be commended for their dedication and hard work, under difficult conditions.
It is our job now, as citizens and activists, to make sure the decision-makers in government know that the work of all public service workers is important, and deserving of the same consideration as our fire fighters when determining the spending priorities of government.

Yes, Forest Fire Fighters are Essential Services
I agree that FFF are essential Services! BUT the mis-management of funds and Time Theft is astonomical and no one is accountable. Why doesn't the Union address this problem with the government.
I worked for the protection branch and I have seen theft, time theft and padding of hours. Perhaps the costs would be lower if thier was accountability and not "this is how it has always been done" attitude. if this was private industry someone would be going to jail for theft and fraud.
The mis managment of funds is sickining in this program and if the public really new how the operations work they woudl be out cryies to address this.
Theft and Fraud? those are large accusations
Wow how long did you work Protection for? Theft and Time theft are huge problems? Maybe you should only speak for yourself or the zone that you worked in, because that is not normal in all of WFM (formerly known as protection).
