Victoria Movie Afternoon! Celebrate Asian Heritage Month
Saturday, May 23, 1:30 - 3:30 pm
BCGEU Victoria Area Office Auditorium
2994 Douglas Street, Victoria
In celebration of Asian Heritage Month, the BCGEU Equity + Human Rights Committee along with the Asian Canadian Labour Alliance is pleased to invite you to an afternoon of movies. Tea and refreshments provided.
"Between: Living in the Hyphen"
A film by Anne Marie Nakagawa that looks at seven different multi-racial Canadians including award-winning poet Fred Wah, and gives voice to their "hybridized" experiences. The film challenges our assumptions about the "one ethnicity + hyphen + Canadian."
"Haru wa Akebono"
Linda Ohama produced this short film about Saving the Legacy Sakura of Oppenheimer Park and the role of the community coalition that came together to save the trees and preserve the story of the Issei (first generation Japanese-Canadian pioneers) who planted the trees.
