Paul Finch - VP Bio

Paul has been involved in the student and labour movement for over a decade. He has written and spoken extensively across North America on labour and student issues.

Paul joined a union for the first time as a member of CUPE, working as a campaign researcher while a student at a post-secondary institution. He first held office in the student movement for two consecutive terms as the Speaker of Council and Finance Executive for the Camosun College Student Society, and worked closely with other student unions provincially and nationally

Paul became active in the BCGEU while working for the provincial government – first as a Local 1201 shop steward and local executive member in 2005, and eventually joined the Component 12 executive.

Working as an IT project analyst for Shared Services BC, Paul also served on the Ministry of Citizens’ Services Article 29 Committee, eventually as co-chair for the union side.

Paul was elected as Provincial vice president of the BCGEU during the 48th Constitutional Convention held in June, 2011. He currently serves as a member of the governing Executive Committee and Provincial Executive, and chairs the International Solidarity, Constitution and Structure, and Young Worker Committees for the BCGEU.

Paul also serves on committees for the B.C. Federation of Labour as well as the Canadian Labour Congress, and is strongly involved in the international labour movement.
