Talks progress in community health bargaining
17 Dec '09
Talks between the Community Bargaining Association (CBA) - which includes the BCGEU bargaining committee and members from other health care unions - and the Health Employers' Association of BC (HEABC) have progressed over the past week.
On Monday, union members in the CBA caucused and reviewed their proposals in advance of meeting with HEABC representatives.
The CBA and the employers' association then exchanged complete proposals on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the CBA met again to review the employers' proposal and prepare a response.
Today, the unions and employers will exchange counter proposals in the hopes of coming closer to a deal.
"The unions in the CBA have worked hard to present a realistic package," says BCGEU community health bargaining chair Carla Dempsey.
"The employers' association has tabled very few proposals but this is how we expected bargaining to go."
Members will be kept fully informed as bargaining progresses over the next few days.
