Following a difficult round of negotiations, a tentative agreement between the BCGEU and CLBC has been reached. The process proved challenging because CLBC is funded by the B.C. government and was held to the mandate set for the public sector.

Still, both sides worked hard to resolve issues of concern to CLBC members. This round of negotiations succeeded in reflecting and strengthening the working relationship between the union and the employer.

The tentative agreement, which we are recommending to members, is reasonable given the difficult economic situation facing the province.

Highlights of the new agreement are:
• employment security for employees who have regular status as of April 1, 2010
• family illness to cover spouse or adult dependent child with a disability
• bereavement leave to include stepparent in the definition of immediate family
• workload appendix to apply to all employees
• temporary market adjustments to continue for IT staff and financial officers
• increased access to additional hours for part-time employees
• establishment of joint committee to review the existing benefit plan
• seniority for voluntary transfers to seniority units for auxiliary employees
• a one time payout of archived vacation
• new process for excluded positions
• new “Welcome Back” vacation policy
• improvements to the health and welfare plan
• term of Agreement – 2 years (April 1, 2010 – March 31, 2012)

A complete copy of the tentative agreement is available in pdf by clicking here.

Information meetings will be scheduled and posted to the BCGEU website next week. Bargaining Committee members and the staff representative will be present to answer any questions you may have.

Voting on the tentative agreement will take place at the worksites. Stewards will be sent voting packages the week of May 10th. The deadline for ballots is Monday, May 31, 2010.
