Kamloops hotel closure to affect BCGEU members

The BCGEU has been notified the owner of what was formerly known as the Coast Canadian Inn intends to close the hotel.

This move is a great disappointment to the union and the three-dozen members who work at the hotel.

The BCGEU has represented members at the Coast Canadian Inn for decades. We’ve worked successfully with various owners over the years. Our members have been an important part of the past success of the hotel.

The owner previously closed all food and beverage services in the hotel and notified the union of the layoffs of all food and beverage workers. Other members have remained on the job to keep the hotel running.

The closure triggers Section 54 of the B.C. Labour Relations Code. The union has a 60-day period to conclude an agreement on the closure process with the employer.

We will make the employer adhere to all relevant provisions of the B.C. Labour Relations Code as well as the collective agreement.
