Workers join the BCGEU for different reasons. But some things are universal - a stronger voice, better working conditions, protection of your rights, fair treatment, respect.
That's what you can get by joining our union.
Without a union or a collective agreement, you are subject to the whims of your employer... such as who gets a pay raise or promotion... the heaviest workload... the preferred vacation time.
When you belong to the BCGEU, you are not alone when it comes to facing management and addressing issues at your workplace. You have the collective strength of experienced staff, resources and 60,000 members behind you!
As BCGEU members, you and your co-workers will be able to negotiate (with the assistance of skilled negotiators) wages and benefits, processes to resolve grievances and harassment complaints, rules around promotions and job postings, and many other provisions.
Having a collective agreement with your employer means your rights as an employee, working conditions and compensation are spelled out clearly and are enforceable.
You will also be able to participate in the union by being elected shop steward, health and safety representative or other union positions, attending conventions, conferences and training courses, and participating in our many fightback campaigns to protect jobs and services.
