Municipal Pension Plan now implemented for eligible CSS workers

If You're In, STAY IN! If You're Not – GET IN QUICK!

You have likely noticed an additional deduction on your paycheque as a result of contributions to the Municipal Pension Plan. Your contribution is 6.99% of gross pay. Your employer's contribution is, by law, always higher than yours. It averages 8% for all CSS employers. Don't second guess your wise decision to enrol. This benefit is well worth what you're paying. You will always receive the 8% (average) employer contribution while you are enrolled. We don’t know of many members who would walk away from an 8% wage increase. Being enrolled in the MPP is even better because that's the LEAST you'll get – the pension itself is worth much more.

Early information indicates the majority of members are enrolled in this significant financial benefit. If you are one of the few who have signed a waiver and not enrolled, you can reverse that decision at any time. The BCGEU strongly encourages you to do so. Every week and month you wait, you lose more money. How long would you volunteer to give up an 8% wage increase? This is just the same. The chart below shows what it will cost you this year in lost employer contributions alone if you choose to not enrol.

Classification(s)Grid LevelYour Lost Employer Contribution Every Year*
Awake Residential Night Worker6$2541.60
Residence Worker, Community Support Worker10$2861.04
Residence Coordinator, Program Coordinator 214$3755.28
Counsellors14 Parapro$4218.96
*based on 37.5h week at Step 4

Whatever your circumstance, the benefits of enrolment are always greater with more time in the plan, so you should get in as quickly as you can. You can contact your employer for the necessary forms.
