Congratulations - George Heyman wins a tight race
On Sunday, George Heyman won the nomination to be the NDP candidate in the Vancouver-Fairview riding in next May’s provincial election.
George of course is no stranger to most of you. He was my predecessor as BCGEU president, serving from 1999-2008.
The race was tight but when the votes were counted George finished well ahead of Vancouver councillor Geoff Meggs. Geoff would also have made an excellent candidate and I want to thank him for putting his name forward.
George has indicated he will step down as executive director of the Sierra Club of B.C. and focus his energies on beating the Liberal incumbent, Health Minister Margaret MacDiarmid next May.
I know George will work hard to win the seat for the NDP.
I also know BCGEU activists will be working alongside George and every other NDP candidate in the province to ensure we elect a government that puts workers, their families and their communities first.
