BCGEU to donate $5,000 to recognize World AIDS Day

The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union is donating $5,000 to support hundreds of children orphaned by AIDS in Lesotho, in southern Africa, at an event Monday in Victoria.

The donation will help Positively Africa, a non-governmental organization, operate the AIDS orphanage. It will also support the efforts of individuals with developmental disabilities from the Garth Homer Society in Victoria who have been raising money to support this project through Positively Africa.

The chair of the union's International Solidarity Committee, Colleen Jones, will present the cheque at an event at the Garth Homer Society at 9 a.m., and thank the Garth Homer Society, its staff and members for their leadership and hard work in support of this project.

December 1 is World AIDS Day.

Staff at the Garth Homer Society are BCGEU members.
