BCNU unsure if they want BCGEU LPNs

The raid application the BCNU filed at the Labour Relations Board on Monday is certainly confusing. And to my way of thinking, it contradicts everything the nurses' union has been saying in the past few weeks about wanting to unify nurses.

First, the nurses' union applied only for the LPNs in facilities - and only LPNs who are members of the Hospital Employees' Union.

Then they filed an alternative application for LPNs in the six health authorities - and their lawyer insisted they were only interested in LPNs who are members of HEU. They weren't applying to represent BCGEU LPNs. I couldn't help thinking the Nurses' Union was less interested in unifying nurses, than in undermining HEU.

But it's all different today. Today the BCNU says their application includes LPNs who are members of our union.

The BCNU has lost a lot of credibility over this raid with their own members as well as with other unions in the Canadian labour movement.

I'm looking forward to the day when the waste of money and resources stops, and health care unions can get on with bargaining and work together again to protect health services.

Sticking Togeather?

"it is more important than ever that Health Care Workers stick togeather and stay focused." WOW, Stick Togeather? Now how can we do this in the future when our Union has negociated pay increases for some Health Care workers and Nothing for others? Stay focused? On how you have just divided Health Care Workers? Unbeleivable!

Apparently numbers of HEU

Apparently numbers of HEU nurses who signed up with the BCNU is 50%. Many are curious how many BCGEU LPN's signed up with the BCNU. I think instead of being too quick to slam the BCNU maybe the leadership of both the HEU and BCGEU should do some serious thinking about why members would be so quick to decertify and jump ship from their current unions. Workers in many classifications have lost a lot, sometimes with little apparent action on the part of their unions to protect them. I think it is time for the big corporate unions to get serious and do some outreach to their memberships about where they are perceived to not be living up to their obligations and what they need from their unions. How about a survey? On these very same pages of the Presidents blog members have identified some serious problems and concerns and some have even stated they would want to decertify. After almost a decade in the BCGEU, there have been nothing but losses for many in the component and it is hard to take seeing gains bargained for members in other components, with better leadership. People are getting sick and tired of the GEU dropping the ball and paying the real consequences.

BCNU - don't come asking for my support!

I've always supported all Unions, won't be supporting the BCNU ever again!

BCNU

I think it's a wonderful idea to have the LPN's in the NU, because that's where nurses belong. The LPN.s are not being represented where they are, properly. They are doing what the RNs used to do and getting paid a pittance for the responsibility they have. I'm sure the RNU could do a better job. All you guys are interested in is that 100 bucks a month, so you can live the good life. Planes, hotels, meals, and expense accounts, and they rarely see a rep.

Yes well put

The simple truth seems to be that the BCGEU LPN's didn't sign up in droves because there was no advantage to them to do so and it's hard to imagine what possible advantage the HEU LPN's see in this BCNU ploy as the contracts won't change just because their union does.

Well put Mr. President. Some

Well put Mr. President. Some of the stories I have heard about "what they are selling" goes against true union values. Shame on the BCNU Shame on the ex BCGEU organizers who threw out the door all the training they were provided just for a paucheque
