Child Care

The BCGEU is proud to be partners with the Coalition of Child Care Advocates of B.C. working towards building a quality, non-profit, universal and accessible child care system in British Columbia.

May is Childcare month

The BCGEU is proud to celebrate May is child care month with the launch of a series of short animations.

These five animations are part of a leadership project created by the Cowichan Early Childhood Education members of BC. The BCGEU worked jointly with them on the campaign portion of the project.

The messages conveyed in these clips outline the importance of early childhood educators and the diverse skills required to support children and families in their growth and development.

Living in an era of technology, we have the ability to send information around the world.  There is no greater message to send than the importance of early childhood educators, who are responsible for providing care to society’s most important citizens.

An informed society will help build a level of respect and a professional understanding that early childhood educators deserve.

This portion of the project aims to use the power of social media. We are encouraging you to send these short animations via facebook, twitter and other media.

Please share and promote these clips through your social networks.

The BCGEU is pleased to celebrate Childcare Awareness month by recognizing the vital work and dedication of Early Childhood Educators in BC's child care sector. Children are our hope for a better future. What they learn, especially in their formative years, is paramount. Some experts believe that 80% of our essential life skills are learned before age six. Those early years provide a critical foundation. They shape our core values and beliefs about how we treat others and how we view ourselves.

Every day, Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) provide young children with a caring and safe environment where they are free to create, explore, and learn. You teach them to share and respect themselves and each other. We acknowledge ECEs dedication and their professionalism.

The union is proud to represent more than 1,500 Early Childhood Educators in 150 childcare bargaining units across BC. Every worksite has received copies of our Childcare Awareness month poster. To download the full-size poster, click here
