BCGEU joins BC Health Coalition's Day of Action
The BCGEU is participating in the BC Health Coalition’s (BCHC) day of action at the B.C. Legislature on November 1. BCGEU Component 2, Hospital and Allied Services, chair Susanne Francoeur and Component 8, Community Health Services, chair Carla Dempsey will be in attendance.
The event is being organized to draw attention to government's failure to fully implement the B.C. Ombudsperson's recommendations on seniors' care.
BCHC intends to bring to light the government’s failure to act effectively on some of the key recommendations of the report such as: making a commitment to care, providing fair access to information that families need to make decisions about their care and letting seniors have their say.
The event will also set the stage for the Ombudsperson's follow up report, which is due to be released in the spring of 2012.
“The BCGEU supports the full implementation of the Ombudsperson's report on seniors' care,” said BCGEU President Darryl Walker. “We’re calling on the B.C. Government to act now on this important report.”
BCGEU members work with seniors in residential care and in the community. They’re worried about their ability to give seniors the kind of care to which they’re entitled in the face of cutbacks and underfunding.
