Community health bargaining to begin on Monday, January 23
BCGEU community health members are returning to the bargaining table in 2012. Your current collective agreement expires on March 31, 2012.
The BCGEU community health bargaining committee was elected last summer. Your bargaining committee members are listed below, for your reference.
We are scheduled to commence bargaining the week of Monday, January 23. We will also be bargaining the weeks of February 6, 13 and 20.
The BCGEU bargaining committee met at the bargaining conference in December to discuss bargaining proposals and strategy.
Members have told our union that their priorities for this round of bargaining are: wages and allowances, job security, health and welfare benefit improvements, and improvements to hours of work and scheduling provisions.
BCGEU is the largest union in the community health sub-sector, representing about 80 percent of workers. The other unions in the community health bargaining association are UFCW 1518, HEU, HSA, CUPE, USWA and CLAC.
Community health is one of three subsectors who bargain with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC). The other subsectors, facilities and health science professionals, are bargaining this year as well.
