Community Social Services 2012 bargaining – First bargaining dates set for end of February
BCGEU community-based social service workers are returning to the bargaining table in 2012. Your current collective agreement expires on March 31, 2012.
The first dates for bargaining with the employer have now been set for the week of February 27.
The BCGEU bargaining committee met last week to discuss bargaining strategy and to review and prioritize the bargaining proposals received. Members have made it very clear that a fair deal is a priority.
The BCGEU community social services bargaining committee was elected at the union’s bargaining conference held last December. Your bargaining committee members for the three sectors (Community Living, General Services and Aboriginal Services) are listed below, for your reference.
All the unions in the community social services sector also met last week. The BCGEU is the largest union in the community social services sector, representing about two-thirds of workers. CUPE, HEU, HSA are the next largest followed by CLAC, UFCW, USW, CSWU and BCNU.
There are 220 employers in community social services divided in three sectors: Community Living, General Services and Aboriginal Services.
The Community Social Services Employers’ Association represents all the employers in the sector.
Approximately 55,000 BCGEU members, over 80% of the union, will be in bargaining in 2012. Check out our Bargaining 2012 webpage for more information.
