Darryl Walker speaks to CKNW Radio about workplace bullying

(Burnaby, Jan 26, 2012) BCGEU President Darryl Walker conducts an interview with CKNW's Bill Good about the BCGEU's efforts to combat bullying in the workplace.

We’ve taken the bullying issue to the bargaining table on many occasions. For instance, we negotiated an MOU (#13) with the B.C. Government in 2010. The MOU, entitled Bullying in the Workplace, is contained in our 15th Master Agreement. We’ve also made additional proposals around anti-bullying language in this round of bargaining.

As well, we negotiated anti-bullying language on our recent collective agreement for component 17 members at BC Place (PAVCO). We’re striving to get anti-bullying language into as many collective agreements as we can.

The BCGEU also leads educational campaigns and holds workshops to educate members about workplace bullying and misuse of authority, where a boss bullies a subordinate.
