Northwest Community College Update #1

To: All Northwest Community College Members

Sister Merkel, Brother Ross, and I met with the college for the bulk of the morning today.  The BCGEU is working very closely with the college to minimize any layoffs that are coming.  During the meeting this morning, we confirmed that no specific layoffs have been decided on yet.  We expect that there will be specific details on BCGEU unit impacts later this week following the Budget Review Committee meeting on February 1st. 

At that time your elected leadership will be free to disclose the specifics coming out of that meeting.  The three of us will be meeting again with the college on February 13th to determine where the actual layoffs may occur and ensure adherence to your collective agreement rights.  The college is committed to moving through this process respectfully and as dignified as possible.  The BCGEU will ensure this happens.
