Shift premium decision - BCGEU

Three Health Services and Support - Community Bargaining Association union members with superior benefits filed a grievance that they were not being paid the $0.25 weekend shift premium for weekend work. The grievances went to arbitration in 2016.

Arbitrator Chris Sullivan's March 6, 2017 decision clarifies that as these members moved from Government to the Community Health Subsector in the mid-1990s, bringing afternoon and night shift premiums with them, they are therefore not entitled to the $0.25 weekend shift premium.

The Health Services and Support – Community Collective Agreement does not have afternoon or night shift premiums but negotiated a $0.25 weekend shift in 2012.
