BCGEU members ratify agreement with provincial government

Members of the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU) employed by the provincial government have voted 71 percent in favour of a new collective agreement. The announcement was made today by the union following two weeks of voting. 

The voting comes following a tentative agreement with government negotiators that was reached on March 29. Read more »

BCGEU reports marginal progress so far as B.C. Government negotiations resume

BCGEU President Darryl Walker says the union is a bit discouraged the last two weeks of bargaining with the B.C. Government has produced little progress on a variety of issues.

During the weeks of January 19 and 26, 2012, each of the BCGEU’s six public service occupational groups conducted small table negotiations with government negotiators. Read more »

Master Bargaining update: talks sidetracked by government announcement of BCGEU member layoffs

Three days of negotiations between the BCGEU and the B.C. Government were marred this week by the government’s announcement that it’s closing two youth corrections units for female offenders in Prince George and Victoria. As a result, more than two-dozen regular and auxiliary BCGEU members in Component One (Corrections & Sheriff Services) will lose their jobs.

BCGEU says expanded sheriff duties will generate revenue, save money and improve road safety

The BCGEU is calling on the B.C. Government to assign additional duties to the B.C. Sheriff Services as cost saving and revenue generating measures. The union believes such a move would also improve road safety, alleviate delays in courts and free up other police forces to focus on the Criminal Code. Read more »
