Re: Rally in Support of Janitorial Workers at Protrans
When: Monday, September 17 from 3:45pm – 4:45pm
Where: Vancouver City Centre Station (Sidewalk at Granville and West
Georgia)
The BCGEU has learned that the GDI janitorial staff at Protrans, fellow union workers and members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2, were given lay off notice effective September 17 as the Employer has given the contract to a new, non‑unionized company. The new company, Tricom, has further informed these workers that they do not intend to hire any of these GDI workers.
The BCGEU stands with fellow union workers in solidarity and encourages members who are able to attend the rally in support of these workers on Monday. Please ensure that if you attend the rally, you do so on your own time.
We encourage Protrans to do the right thing and respect these workers and their contract, and allow them to continue working with dignity.
