An injury to one is an injury to all: Show your support at PoCo Courthouse! - BCGEU

In April of this year, a corrections officer at North Fraser Pretrial Centre was the victim of a violent and targeted attack.

The court date for the inmate accused in this cowardly attack on our member has been set for Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Courthouse.

Your union is asking corrections officers to attend this sentencing hearing in order to support our member that was attacked for doing his job.

An injury to one is an injury to all. Judges and prosecutors must send a strong message to inmates who assault our members: if an inmate attacks a corrections officer they will pay the price no matter what the excuse for the assault is. We expect similar sentences to those in American jails.

Every worker in BC has a right to a violence-free work environment. Our justice system must stand up for the frontline workers of that justice system, especially the women and men who put their lives on the line every day in the name of public safety.

We hope to see you there this Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at the Port Coquitlam Courthouse. We must stand together now more than ever.
