Re:     Bargaining Resumes/Update

The new year started off an a positive note for the River Rock Bargaining Committee, as collective agreement negotiations with the Employer resumed on January 10th, 12th and 13th. Talks were lively at times, but they were respectful, and much progress was made during this latest round of bargaining.

Job posting language is of particular importance to the bargaining committee and they want it to be clearly spelled out in your first collective agreement. Through bargaining surveys, you clearly expressed to the Union that you want a fair, clear process on how are jobs  are posted, and most importantly, how they are awarded. The language your committee proposed addresses this, and we are optimistic that new job posting language will soon be agreed by the parties.

Both sides also spent a considerable amount of time discussing seniority language as well as a detailed layoff and recall procedure. Again, this is all about fairness and clarity. Your committee wants collective agreement language that clearly outlines how seniority works, the benefits that come with seniority, and even how it can protect members in the unlikely event layoffs were to occur. The committee has even proposed language on how a laid off employee can be recalled for work, if work becomes available. We will keep your posted on our progress.
