Bargaining for Hard Rock Casino's first collective agreement resumed on June 28th. Two days of negotiating were scheduled with the Employer, and your committee left the bargaining table pleased with the progress that was made during this latest round of complicated talks.
Both sides spent a lot of time discussing the very important issue of health and safety at the casino. Your committee has worked hard, insisting that you have strong health and safety language in your collective agreement. On June 28th, agreement was achieved. Not only will there be detailed language regarding health and safety at the casino, there will also be a protocol on how members and the Employer will have to deal with "abusive" behaviour from patrons. Your committee fought hard to have this issue addressed in your collective agreement, and we got it done!
Progress was also made on job posting language, and a productive discussion took place on such matters as shift scheduling, and tip committee language and structure. We will report to you when agreement has been reached on these important issues.
Because of summer holidays, and other scheduling issues, bargaining will most likely not resume until later in August. In the meantime, your committee, and staff from the BCGEU will be rolling out the BCGEU RV in the coming weeks for a day long BBQ at the Motion Canada parking lot next to the casino. We promise to give you plenty of heads up when a date has been established.
