BCGEU members at five post-secondary institutions have voted to successfully ratify new agreements with their employers.
These ratifications complete the process of bargaining between BCGEU members and the
Post-Secondary Employers' Association began in November 2018. The agreements cover over 1,000 instructors, assistant instructors and technical staff at Camosun College, Coast Mountain College, Northern Lights College, Okanagan College and Selkirk College.
All agreements have a three-year term (April 1, 2019 – March 31, 2022) and contain general wage increases of 2% per year.
Included in the agreements were also the establishments of:
- A Centre of Excellence for Teaching and Learning to strengthen instructional practices across all programs through peer-mentoring, workshops, and seminars, as well as increasing learning support for all students using tools like accessible tutorial services for writing and math. (Northern Lights College – Local 710)
- A fund to support the development of online, distributed and blended courses, as well as, instructor and student support initiatives designed to increase access to improve learning outcomes. (Camosun College – Local 701)
- A fund to provide support to faculty, either individually or as groups, to plan and undertake innovative projects that lead to improvements in the student experience, and program sustainability. (Coast Mountain College – Local 712, Selkirk College – Local 709, and Okanagan College – Local 707)
