BCGEU Wins Important Grievance For Members At Gateway Casinos - BCGEU

It was a hard-fought grievance and YOU won. BCGEU members at Gateway casinos are now entitled to be paid the statutory holiday premium of time and one-half for hours worked on a statutory holiday and an additional time and one-half for hours worked if you are in an overtime situation.

Everyone working a statutory holiday gets time and one-half for the hours you work. Now, if you're also in an overtime situation while working on the stat holiday, you're entitled to an additional overtime premium of time and one-half for the same hours. This means triple time for working the statutory holiday when you're also in an overtime situation. This is also in addition to a regular or average day's pay for each statutory holiday that qualifying employee's receive regardless if they work the day or not.

This important win for you was the result of an arbitration held last month involving a grievance filed by BCGEU member E. LaLonde. It's a reason to celebrate!

BCGEU represents staff spread across Gateway's four casinos in the Thompson-Okanagan: Playtime Casino in Kelowna, Lake City Casino in Vernon, and Cascades Casinos in Kamloops and Penticton. BCGEU members work at table games, as slot attendants, cashiers, in the count room, kitchen, security, guest services and maintenance.

The BCGEU is one of the largest and most diverse unions in British Columbia. We represent over 79,000 members in 550 bargaining units in the private sector and public services.
