BCGEU presents benchmark proposal for CO’s and CS’s - BCGEU

On Wednesday May 22 a BCGEU classifications representative and two members from the Component 1 executive (Dean Purdy, Component Chair VIRCC and Brian Campbell, Component 2nd Vice Chair NFPC) met with Corrections Branch officials and a PSA classifications representative in order to review the benchmark positions. The meeting is part of a process to create a new benchmark for both Correctional Officers (CO’s) and Correctional Supervisors (CS’s). These are the classification-specific detailed descriptions of each job and how they correspond directly to the Public Service Job Evaluation Plan (PSJEP).

The meeting was productive and cooperative with both sides agreeing to language changes for both the CO and CS revised benchmarks.

An onsite tour of the Sheriffs Court House at 222 Main Street and the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre for the PSA and BCGEU classifications representative is scheduled for today.

A similar meeting for the Sheriffs’ benchmark review will take place and we will update you following this meeting.

Revising the benchmarks is an agreed-to process and is separate from the et al classification appeals filed in 2011 for both Corrections and Sheriffs under Article 28 of the Master Agreement. The classification appeals filed on behalf of Corrections and Sheriffs are one of a number the union has filed in the past.

We will continue to keep you updated as both of these BCGEU Component 1 initiatives move along.
