BCGEU president Darryl Walker has contacted MLA Laurie Throness, Parliamentary Secretary for Corrections, requesting opportunities for frontline corrections workers to offer their input during an upcoming safety review.

The provincial government announced yesterday that Throness will be conducting a safety-focused review of the province’s correctional centres. The review will coincide with health and safety inspections of B.C.’s prisons already being conducted by a team of inspectors from the WCB.

We have told the Parliamentary Secretary the BCGEU welcomes an open and thorough safety review of these facilities and that members will provide assistance where they can.

We will keep members informed as more information on the safety review becomes available.
