Component 1 - Classification Update - BCGEU

Corrections
On April 14, BCGEU Classifications representatives met with the Component 1 Corrections Classification Focus Group to review the BCPSA's draft classification grid level ratings and rationales for the Corrections Officer and Corrections Supervisor positions. The Focus Group is made up of myself, Brian Campbell (Component 2nd Vice Chair NFPC), Chris Jack (Local 104 Chair FRCC) and Stan Stanowski (Local 104 member FRCC).

The Focus Group reviewed the classifications against the 13 factors of the Public Service Job Evaluation Plan. We identified the factor ratings the union disagrees with. We have asked the BCPSA to provide a more thorough explanation for the ratings that we expect to receive in early May.

The Focus Group will meet again at that time to prepare rebuttal arguments. In the meantime, the Focus Group may be contacting members to ask for information or work examples that will be used to support the BCGEU position.

Sheriff Services
On February 6, the Sheriff Services Classification Focus Group (Derrick Goodwin, Paul Dhillon, Jeff Mercer, Scott Van Der Ree and Roger Phillips) met with the BCGEU Classifications representative to review the BCPSA's draft classification grid level ratings for the Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant and Staff Sergeant positions. More comprehensive documents explaning the draft grid positions were received from the BCPSA on April 15.

A Sheriff Services Focus Group meeting will be scheduled in the coming weeks to review the documents and prepare rebuttal arguments.

Your union will continue to work towards moving members higher up the classification grid.

The union is working with the PSA to come up with an agreed date for hearing. We will provide updates in the weeks ahead.

In solidarity,
Dean Purdy Component 1 Chair (VIRCC)
