Convention Resolution D-215: Update for Corrections and Sheriff Services (Component 1) members
Your Component 1 Vice-President, Dean Purdy, has brought together a team of local officers and BCGEU staff to review the above resolution passed at the BCGEU convention in 2014 and to take steps towards the development of the campaign.
The resolution calls for the development of a campaign to address the issues of violence in the workplace, officer-to-inmate ratios, and the need for changes to WCB regulations.
Your campaign team will include:
- Vice-President & Chair, C1, Dean Purdy
- Local 103 Chairperson, Brian Campbell
- Local 105 Chairperson, Tony Tessari
- Research and Campaigns: Keith Cameron
- Communications: Evan Stewart
- Occupational Health and Safety: Sheila Moir and Brandon Thistle
- Component staff representative: Mike Eso
It is time that government makes the necessary changes that will keep our members safe from violence in the work place and give the Workers’ Compensation Board the ability to write orders to address the hazards we face on a regular basis.
The resolution states the following: Start a campaign to change WCB regulations to recognize working with inmates as hazardous work thus allowing Workers’ Compensation Board officers to write orders on staffing levels in BC Correctional Centres.
