Corrections overcrowding covered by provincial media - BCGEU


Overcrowding and safety issues in B.C. Corrections facilities has been an ongoing issue since the BC Liberal government began closing correctional centres and began double-bunking prisoners in pre-trial facilities after being elected in 2001.

The BCGEU has raised the issue publicly several times in recent years, after members expressed concern over rising staff-to-inmate ratios, overcrowding and double-bunking in provincial jails.
