OIPC to consider BCGEU appeal of Throness’ report - BCGEU

The Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner (OPIC) has informed the BCGEU that it will consider our union’s complaint that an inadequate search was conducted for the original version of MLA Laurie Throness’ report on safety issues in B.C.’s provincial prisons.

His long-delayed report was submitted to the Minister of Justice in June 2014. Throness informed the BCGEU in November of 2014 that it was “undergoing the normal process of approval, and should be ready to release soon.” Throness also informed us that he “adjusted” his original recommendations.

We requested the original version of the Throness report through a Freedom of Information request.  We were told the draft no longer exists. Our union will continue to seek clarification around the changes made to his original report.

We will let you know the progress of our OIPC appeal as information becomes available.
