To all BCGEU Component One – Corrections and Sheriff Services members

On Wednesday June 26, a BCGEU classifications representative and four Component 1 members from the Sheriff Service (Roger Phillips, Paul Dhillon, Jeff Mercer and Scott Van Der Ree) met with  Sheriff Service officials and  PSA classifications representatives to review benchmark positions.

The meeting is part of a process to create new benchmarks for Deputy Sheriffs, Sergeants and Staff Sergeants. These are the classification-specific detailed descriptions of each job and how they correspond directly to the Public Service Job Evaluation Plan (PSJEP).

Revising the benchmarks is an agreed-to process and is separate from other classification appeals filed in 2011 for both Corrections and Sheriffs under Article 28 of the Master Agreement.

We will continue to keep members updated on these talks as both BCGEU Component 1 initiatives progress.
