Due to the retirement of past Chairperson, Sue Powell, there are currently two (2) Executive positions open on the Local: 

• Member-at-Large 
• Young Worker Member at Large (nominees must 29 years of age or younger)

Member-at-Large :

The role of the Member at large is to assist the Local in the business of running the Local, such as sitting on committees, Labour Council or Cross Component Committee or other committees as you show interest in; to assist in balloting, strikes, educational events, worksite visits or information sharing with members in Local 602. This position is a stepping stone for those who want to eventually move into a more encompassing Table Officer position.

Young Worker Member at Large: 

The role of the Young Worker Member at Large is similar but is in more of a mentoring capacity and providing info to the local about young workers and taking information about young worker activities in the Labour Movement to the young workers in the local.  They are the liaison for young workers.  Part of this may be planning an event for young workers or with other locals, and encourage young workers to get educated and/or involved in their union.

The nomination form is attached and must be filled out, signed by both the nominator and nominee and submitted by fax to the BCGEU North Island Area Office, 106-1650 Terminal Ave N, Nanaimo, BC  V9S 0A2.  Fax: 250-740-0070, Toll Free Fax: 1 800 946 0247 by the deadline. The deadline for nomination is 5:00 p.m. Wed., March 15, 2017.

If an election is required, all candidates may submit one page (8½" by 11") biography (e.g. union experience and why you would be a good candidate) for copying and distribution to members with ballots. This must be provided to the Area Office within one business day of the close of nominations 5:00 pm Thurs., March 16, 2017.

We strongly encourage you to get involved!  We share the work so no one is overloaded. We strongly encourage people from other communities such as Powell River and Port Hardy to get involved.
