Why are we getting new member IDs/cards? What are the benefits?

The new membership cards are more durable and have upgraded card security measures (new unique member IDs to enhance privacy and our overall data integrity). In addition, these new cards contain tap technology which allows to sign into BCGEU meetings. We are excited about all the new projects we will be rolling out based on these new cards in the coming years.

What information about me is stored on the card?

Only name, Member ID, and Locals – these cards follow the highest security and privacy best practices, so no personal information can be lost if a Member’s card is lost.

When will I receive my card?

To date, the BCGEU has sent out over 55,000 new membership cards to members. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 related physical distancing rules, we are unable to print new cards until staff are able to return to the office. Please check back for any updates, and make sure your address is up to date by logging into your account on BCGEU Member Portal.

What do I do if I lose my card?

If you lose your card, contact membership records ([email protected]).  Ensure your contact information is up to date and ask for a replacement card to be sent out.

What do I do with my card if I’m no longer a member?

Keep it in a safe place in case you get another union job.

Who do I contact if I still have more questions?

If you have any questions please contact your area office.
