As you know, the employer served section 54 notice to the BCGEU on October 8, 2015 as they were expecting changes in the workplace due to budget constraints. Immediately after being served notice by the employer, the BCGEU met to discuss the specific impact the funding cuts would have on our members at DIVERSEcity. However at the time, they were not able to provide any further details as they were still awaiting a response from the funder. 

The parties recently met to discuss this notice on February 4, 2016 at the Joint Labour Management [JLM] meeting. The employer confirmed that they expect decreased funding which will result in some layoffs and reduction of hours, but that a large percentage of the staff will have their layoff letters rescinded. In this meeting, the employer stated that they will inform the union and stewards of any updates expeditiously. 

In light of the notice, the union would like to host a meeting with all members at DIVERSEcity to discuss the s.54 notice, and answer any questions you have.
