More than 70 positions are being eliminated from the Ministry of Children and Family Development youth justice system. More than 60 workers at the Victoria Youth Custody Services received layoff notices this morning. Seven workers at the Burnaby Youth Custody Services centre also received layoff notices today.

Sheriff Services
On May 21 the Sheriff Services Classification Focus Group (Derrick Goodwin, Paul Dhillon, Jeff Mercer, Scott Van Der Ree and Steve Jervis) met with the BCGEU Classifications representatives. The meeting was to review the B.C. Public Service Agency’s (BCPSA) final classification grid levels for the Deputy Sheriff, Sergeant and Staff Sergeant position.

Randall Garrison, the Member of Parliament for Esquimalt Juan de Fuca, is calling for a halt to the planned closure of the Victoria Youth Custody Services centre.
