The B.C. Government and Service Employees’ Union announced today that the union was successful in its appeal of the $3.2 million fine levied by Elections BC under the BC Liberal government’s elections advertising legislation.

A message to BCGEU members and staff from Darryl Walker:

On behalf of your Treasurer Stephanie Smith and the rest of the union's Provincial Executive Committee, I wish to extend my thanks to all BCGEU members and staff who participated in yesterday’s province-wide job action by members in direct government service.

The day was a success. We delivered a strong message to the government that our members need a fair and reasonable collective agreement. Not just for our government unit, but for other sectors currently at the bargaining table.

The response from the public was excellent. As long as we take a disciplined and measured approach to bargaining, I'm convinced we will succeed.

I also want to thank Jim Sinclair and Irene Lanzinger of the BC Federation of Labour for their support and all the other unions that joined us in solidarity on the picket line.
