Corrections Article 3.1 union/management committee reviews the issues - BCGEU

Members of the component executive met with Pete Coulson the Provincial Director of the Adult Custody Division, all wardens of provincial jails, and other corrections officials at an Article 3.1 joint union/ management meeting on December 9 at the Victoria Area Office.

Federal crime legislation passed into law earlier this year will likely mean the provincial government will have to build two new jails, according to the B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU), which represents correctional officers in the province's jails.

Agreement was reached during the recent round of public service bargaining that Deputy Sheriffs and Conservation Officers are qualified for the designation of "public safety occupation" as "police". Representations to confirm this have been made to the federal authorities. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulates this provision of the Income Tax Act
