Component 8- 2018 Negotiations Bargaining Committee Elections - BCGEU

Component 8 – Community Health Services is comprised of BCGEU members who work under the terms of the Community Health Services and Support Subsector Collective Agreement ("agreement"). This agreement will expire on March 31, 2019 and we are now making preparations to elect seven (7) members and two (2) alternates to the bargaining committee.

Because the majority of members in Component 8 work under the terms of the same agreement, we have been able to make some beneficial changes to the process and the timelines for bargaining committee elections. The changes allow for representation from the component executive and from the general membership.

The seven (7) members of the bargaining committee will be selected as follows:

• The Vice President of component 8 and the 1st vice chairperson of component 8 will sit on the bargaining committee. The Vice President of Component 8 will be the chair of the bargaining committee.*

• The Component 8 executive will elect three (3) members from among the members of the Component 8 executive to sit on the bargaining committee.**

• The general membership will elect two (2) members and two (2) alternates from among the general membership working covered under the Health Services & Support –Community Subsector Agreement.

* If the vice president of component 8 is unable to serve they will be replaced by an alternate. The seven members of the bargaining committee will elect a new chair from amongst themselves.

** Of the five members selected from the component executive there must be a minimum of one member who is a community health worker, one member who is a mental health worker and one member who devolved from the 11th Master.

The elections to determine the five members of the bargaining committee selected from the Component Executive will take place on March 29, 2018.

The process for election by the general membership for the two members-at-large and the two alternates will be explained in advance and will occur at a bargaining conference in May of 2018. Biographies of nominees and ballots will be provided to delegates to the bargaining conference.

The Community Health Bargaining Committee will meet following the election of the additional members of the committee and alternates to review input from the members.

The members of the bargaining committee will participate in training sessions as needed in advance of bargaining.
