Statement re: fallen Abbotsford police officer Const. John Davidson - BCGEU


We extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to the friends, family and colleagues of the Abbotsford Police Department police officer who was killed in the line of duty yesterday while trying to arrest a suspect in Abbotsford.

Today, the Abbotsford Police Department issued a news release stating that they "lost an amazing colleague and friend who died in the line of duty. Our community lost a hero."

The fallen police officer is Constable John Davidson, a 24-year veteran police officer and former school liaison officer with Abbotsford School District. Davidson is remembered as a kind, polite and dedicated officer who was determined to make a difference.

"Police officers, correctional officers, sheriffs and other law enforcement officials put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities," said Stephanie Smith, BCGEU President. "Constable Davidson paid the ultimate price while working to keep his community safe. My thoughts are with all those close to him as they cope with this tragic loss."

"I am deeply saddened to learn of Constable Davidson's tragic death," said Dean Purdy, Vice President, BCGEU Correctional and Sheriff Services Component 1. "He was a dedicated member of the law enforcement community, committed to keeping his community safe every day. He was a true hero and we thank him for his bravery, his service and his sacrifice."
