FLNRO Appeals Update - BCGEU

The BC Government and Service Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the BC Public Service Agency (PSA) continue to work as a Joint Technical Working Committee (JTWC) on the FLNRO appeals filed.

We held a round of appeal meetings in Prince George in late October 2018 for twelve B.C. Wildfire jobs, and had tours of the Prince George Wildfire Centre Depot as well as a scaling operation. We will proceed with the appeal for the Natural Resource Officer Supervisor position in early February, followed by another round of B.C. Wildfire jobs and a tour of the Chilliwack facilities.

We realize that we are taking longer than originally anticipated to make decisions, and that this is frustrating for those of you waiting for the outcome of your appeal. The delay is for various reasons, including to ensure proper due diligence and take the necessary time to review and properly consider the extensive information appellants have been submitting. As a result, we are adjusting our process slightly to make sure that we complete decisions closer to the appeal meeting before commencing work on the next round of appeals. This means that it may take slightly longer for us to commence work on your appeal, but we believe that this will ultimately be more efficient and expeditious overall.

For those of you still waiting for a decision, we continue as a Committee to work on your appeal, and will get the final decision to you as soon as possible in the new year.

As we have previously reminded you, if you retire or move to another position before your appeal is heard:

  • Please keep the BCGEU up to date with your contact information AND
  • Consider setting aside work examples that will demonstrate the highest level of complexity of your work. The best work examples will be narrative examples that are detailed, specific, practical and relevant to important aspects of your work under appeal.
  • If you think you will need to refer to examples involving actual emails, reports etc., consider sending these in advance to the JTWC for us to access during the appeal, although we will be asking for specific information once we begin work on your appeal.
