NEW!   BCGEU Indigenous Cultural Support Pilot Project

The Indigenous Cultural Support Pilot Project that was passed by the membership at the 2024 Triennial Convention is now active! 

Any BCGEU member in good standing is eligible to have Indigenous Cultural Support during the following Constitutional processes:

• Local Grievance Appeal hearings
• Provincial Executive Grievance Appeal hearings
• Investigation meetings and hearing in relation to Article 7 complaints

Members are required to send an email request to [email protected] to request approval for Indigenous Cultural Support in accordance with the following timelines for each of the Constitutional processes listed above:

• Local Grievance Appeal hearing – at least three weeks prior to the hearing date
• Provincial Executive Grievance Appeal hearing - at least three weeks prior to the hearing date
• Article 7 investigations – within four days of being notified of the Article 7 investigation.
• Article 7 hearing – at least three weeks prior to the hearing

Members may choose their own Indigenous Cultural Support.   Payment for Indigenous Cultural support must be pre-approved and within the BCGEU prescribed fees.     The BCGEU will be establishing a list of Indigenous Cultural Support peoples as soon as possible.   Until such list is established, please feel free to reach out to the Provincial Executive Indigenous Advisory Committee Chairpersons Tristen Wybou ([email protected]) or Coralie Gregoire ([email protected]) to assist you in contacting agencies that may be available to assist you.  

Indigenous Elders the BCGEU is looking for you!

The BCGEU is currently undertaking an Indigenous Cultural Support Pilot Project. This new initiative will allow Indigenous BCGEU members to have cultural support as they navigate their way through three of the BCGEU’s Constitutional process. The Constitutional processes that are eligible for this project are:

• Local Grievance Appeal hearing
• Provincial Executive Grievance Appeal hearing
• Investigation meetings and hearing in relation to Article 7 complaint
