Bargaining Update - SARA for Women's Society - BCGEU

We have finally been given the confirmation that the Order in Council has been proclaimed, bringing you formally into the Community Social Services Bargaining Association. We appreciate your patience during this delay, and acknowledge the frustration you must be feeling, but would like to emphasize that the BCGEU was able to negotiate with the Employers' Association that you would not have to wait 4 months before the monetary terms in the Collective Agreement became effective. What that means for you is that the wage increases were due to be phased in October 29, 2019, and are to be reflected on the pay period ending November 29, 2019.

We will also be starting discussions with the employer regarding Local Issues bargaining. The topics that can be addressed at the Local Issues table are specific, and are laid out in Memorandum of Agreement #1 in the Collective Agreement. These include hours of work, casual call in procedures and seasonal employees. We will be looking for input from all members as to your priorities on these topics, and you will be represented at the bargaining table by two of your newly elected stewards along with myself as negotiator.

Please remember that you are part of the larger BCGEU family, and we encourage you to join us at Local 304 meetings, as well as educational fairs and social events put on by the Area 04 Cross Component Committee. Visit bcgeu.ca to find information and notices.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to bring them to any of your stewards, the Local Chair Tamara Peterson, or myself.

In solidarity,

Heather Turner
staff representative
