This is an update on the status of negotiations for renewal of the collective agreement between the BCGEU and NEC Native Education College.

The bargaining committee met for five days of preparation earlier this fall. This included training in the process and pitfalls of bargaining, a thorough review of members' input from surveys and the worksite meeting in June, a clause-by-clause review of the entire collective agreement, and development of bargaining proposals.

After postponing previously scheduled dates for logistical reasons, the parties held an initial day of bargaining on November 7, 2019. The bargaining committee tabled a comprehensive package of non-monetary proposals, consisting of substantive language changes and housekeeping changes to clean up the collective agreement.

Two additional days of bargaining are scheduled for November 20 and 21, 2019. Members can expect a further update on or after November 21.

In the meantime, the bargaining committee thanks members for their unity, support and patience through this process.
