Your Bargaining Committee resumed collective agreement negotiations with your employer during the week of December 5th. Talks were respectful, and your committee is pleased to report that significant progress was made on a number of non-monetary proposals.
New updated Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) language will now form part of the LifeLabs collective agreement. Of particular importance is an agreement between the parties to work together collaboratively to set up OHS training sessions for both members and the Employer. Worker safety is of paramount importance to the Union, and this new language will go a long way to ensuring that it remains so!
The parties also agreed to new language in the harassment complaints procedure, as well as a shortened notification timeline for shift exchanges. The union and employer also agreed to limit the time a letter of suspension can remain on a members personal file to 18 months.
Bargaining is set to resume in late January. In the meantime please rest assured that terms and conditions of the current collective agreement remain in full force and effect until a new agreement has been ratified by the membership.
To help ensure you receive a copy of bargaining updates please provide a personal email address to the BCGEU at: http://www.bcgeu.ca/email. If we already have an email address on file for you and you wish to edit or update any of your existing contact information, please go to: http://www.bcgeu.ca/change_of_address.
Finally, your Bargaining Committee wishes to thank all members for their patience and support. Have a happy and safe holiday season!!
In solidarity
